One of my favorite places in Atlanta is Oakland Cemetary- a 70-acre maze of monuments, gardens, and tributes located in the center of the city. The cemetary has been around almost as long as Atlanta itself, and its different sections tell a story of how the city has changed in time.
Though it may sound a little strange, one of the reasons I really like Oakland is the life that can be felt there. Sure, it's a place of rest, but all around are small reminders that life continues long after bodily death. I went down to Oakland on a cold winter day, but even then, life was everywhere to be found.
In college I took classes on sociological photography- where our goal was to find elements of humanity in everything we photographed- even the inanimate or non-living. Oakland is classic to me in this sense. You feel the lives that found their resting place here, and the tributes that the living have made to them. I thoroughly enjoyed my day in Oakland, and the photos that came out of it.

(PS- Many thanks to Shayne for keeping me company throughout, and for finding the GREAT tree that helped to create one of my favorite shots from the day :))
